Sustainability Solutions: Building the Next Generational Sustainability Leaders

About Us

The Strathmore University Ideas Festival has evolved as a testament to our commitment to fostering a culture of creativity and innovation at Strathmore University(SU). It serves as an inclusive platform for budding innovators from different fields to convene, irrespective of the developmental stage of their ideas, and offers a unique opportunity to interface with industry leaders. Our overarching goal is not just to catalyse innovation but to cultivate a community of young visionaries dedicated to leaving a positive mark on society.

In its third iteration, the SU Ideas Festival focuses on “Sustainability Solutions: Building the Next Generational Sustainability Leaders.” We recognize the vast scope of sustainability and have chosen to focus our efforts on specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are particularly relevant to the present socio-political climate in Sub-Saharan Africa. These goals include Goal 2: Zero Hunger, Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Participants are invited to present their innovative ideas on any of these topics in concise three to five-minute pitches. These showcasing innovations hold the potential to influence both scientific advancements and societal well-being positively.

WHY

PARTICIPATE ?

Awards

There will be awards for the best pitch. A review team will be set up consisting of at least three active faculty researchers, leaders and innovators from the industry. This team will develop the evaluation rubric in collaboration with the Research and Innovation Department. Our rubrics are designed to provide a structured and objective framework for judging the innovation and entrepreneurship presentations at each phase of the competition. They encompass essential aspects of a successful startup.

Masterclasses

At the heart of our festival lies a deep-seated belief in the power of mentorship and continuous learning. Through our Masterclasses, participants have the opportunity to delve deeper into their respective fields, gaining valuable insights from seasoned experts. By providing a platform for knowledge exchange and skill enhancement, we empower our community of innovators to transform their innovative ideas into tangible solutions that address real-world challenges.

Panel Discussions

Our panel discussions catalyze meaningful dialogue and collaboration. By bringing together diverse leaders, innovators, and thinkers, we create a space for insightful discussions on pressing global issues. Through these conversations, participants gain new perspectives and valuable insights that can inspire innovative solutions and drive positive change within their communities.

Flea Market

The Ideas Festival features a Flea Market that embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that is at the core of our community. Here, innovators and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to showcase their ventures and connect with potential customers.

Sip and Paint

Innovation is not confined to the realms of technology and science; it extends to all forms of creative expression. Our Sip and Paint initiative aims to stimulate creativity and foster a sense of community among young individuals. By providing a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for artistic expression and socialising, we encourage participants to think outside the box and explore new avenues of innovation.

Innovation

Promote entrepreneurship by encouraging students to develop innovative solutions to global sustainability challenges and supporting the commercialization of these solutions.
